The Catalyst is Ozone’s latest creation, designed for riders looking for an incredibly versatile and easy kite to ride for both free ride and waves. Drawn from all the excellent attributes of the Light XC, the Catalyst has been refined into an amazing kite for entry level through to advanced riders. The Catalyst has been developed along with the new Contact control system, which has an increased de-power throw range and a simplified trimming area into modular replaceable components.
I tried last year's Sport XL in 12m. Maybe I bought a lemon as there are people at my local spots who love the kite and ride it hard and fast. I figured I bought a paper bag with no guts. The kite flutters like hell and has less grunt than a fossilised hedgehog.
Good points: the bar is excellent. Feels really safe and tough and everything is pretty much where u want it, with no bullshit colour schemes or stuff u don't need to pay for. Build quality and extras and spare kit have to be the best on the market. Easy to set up, mega-easy relaunch and great for beginners. Comfy, soft, park and ride...actually more like park and park. I flew the 10m in light winds and liked it. My advice is try out the sizes for Ozone kites before you buy. I was trés disappointed. Sorry Ozone. Love the designs, marketing and value for money, but I couldn't make this kite ride. Hopefully the 2010 versions are better.
Super easy relaunch, light feeling, great bar, reverse launch is great, powers fully BUT...it has no torque. It has the lowend of a 10 or 12m Rebel and flutters too much. This kite needs an extra strut or 2 in the large sizes. Anemic low-end.
